Leslie Ghiz

Cincinnati, Ohio City Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz

In conservative Cincinnati, Ohio, Republican City Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz is standing up to the forces of intolerance.  In March 2006, as Cincinnati City Council members debated a bill to add GLBT people to the city's non-discrimination law, an anti-gay group put a full-page ad in the Cincinnati newspaper criticizing supporters of the non-discrimination proposal.  The ad said, "Shame On You!"  When representatives of the group showed up at a committee hearing later that day, Councilwoman Ghiz told them, "Shame on YOU people for spending thousands of dollars putting that in the paper, and not spending it another way--like helping children."  She continued, "I'm proud to be part of the council to put this non-discrimination law on the books.  Shame on YOU for standing for discrimination!"  The non-discrimination law passed and is now on the books.   Log Cabin salutes Republican Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz and looks forward to working with her against efforts to repeal this new law.
