Jill Chambers

Georgia State Representative Jill Chambers

In 2004, Georgia State Representative Jill Chambers, a Republican from Atlanta, twice voted against a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Jill, as she prefers to be called, was the only Republican in the Legislature to vote against the measure.  Last fall, her Democratic opponent tried to paint her votes as an election tactic.  But the voters know better.  The Georgia GLBT community helped give Jill a landslide victory in her heavily Democratic district.

In late 2004, she became the first Republican ever to be honored by Georgia Equality, the statewide nonpartisan GLBT advocacy group, at its annual Political Animal Awards.  Chambers received the coveted Zebra Award for "showing her true stripes of courage."

Jill is one of the most powerful women in the new House Republican majority. She has remained true to her word as a patriot fighting for fairness and inclusion.
