In March 2005, Republican Senator Stan Bingham of Denton, North Carolina signed on to a bill which would add sexual orientation to the protection from discrimination employees of the North Carolina General Assembly would receive.  Two other Republican senators signed on that day, but later withdrew their support.  Senator Bingham boldly stood up for his convictions to support fairness and equality.
