Log Cabin Republicans 2006 Endorsed Candidates

Here's a list of candidates already endorsed by Log Cabin's National Board for the 2006 elections.  More endorsements will be made before Election Day.

 Governors

  Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka- Judy Baar Topinka, the Republican candidate for Governor of Illinois, is an outspoken supporter of gay and lesbian equality.  She has consistently made her support for gays and lesbians known with visible appearances at events such as Gay Pride and Chicago’s Northalsted Street Market Days.  “Judy Baar Topinka is a true friend to the GLBT community,” said Log Cabin—Chicago President Erik Linell.  “She will make a remarkable Governor and will unite the state around our common values of tolerance and fairness for all, regardless of sexual orientation.”  Visit Baar Topinka's campaign website.

   Gov. Linda Lingle (R-HI)- Gov. Lingle is running for a second term as Governor of Hawaii.  She signed into law a bill prohibiting discrimination in housing based on sexual orientation.  Since becoming Governor, she has helped revitalize the Hawaiian economy, building a $650 million budget surplus this year, and helped bring ethics reform to state government.  Visit Gov. Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R-CT)-
Gov. Rell, Governor of Connecticut since 2004, is running for a second term.  Gov. Rell worked closely with state legislators to erase a $1.3 billion state budget deficit and has worked hard to restore faith and integrity back to state government.  In 2005, she became the only governor to sign civil union legislation without being forced to do so by the courts.  Earlier this year, Log Cabin awarded her with its highest honor, the Spirit of Lincoln Award.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA)- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been true to his word that he supports basic fairness and equality for our families. With the signing of this year’s legislation, Gov. Schwarzenegger has signed a total of 21 bills important to the LGBT community. This legislative record covers issues ranging from protecting against discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodation, strengthening hate crimes laws, expanding Domestic Partner Rights, ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in the State Militia, and increasing tools to combat HIV/AIDS. U.S.  Senate

 

 
   Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)- Sen. Chafee has represented Rhode Island since 1999, building one of the strongest gay rights records of any Republican in the Senate.  He has twice voted against the anti-family marriage amendment and has supported the hate crimes bill, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and the Permanent Partners Immigration Act.  Visit Sen. Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME)- Sen. Snowe is running for a third term representing Maine in the Senate.  Snowe has consistently stood up as an advocate for common sense conservatism.  She has twice voted against the anti-family marriage amendment.  She also supported the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act (hate crimes prevention). Visit Sen.    Jan Ting (R-DE) – Jan Ting is the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Delaware.  He opposes the anti-family marriage amendment.  Visit Mr. Ting’s website .

Rep. Charles Bass (R-NH)- Rep. Bass is running for a seventh term in Congress.  He has consistently voted against the anti-family constitutional amendment and has supported hate crimes legislation. Visit Rep. Bass's campaign website.

 

 

Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL)- Rep. Biggert is running for her fifth term in Congress.  She has consistently voted against the anti-family marriage amendment, and has supported the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and the Early Treatment for HIV Act. Visit Rep. Rep. Mary Bono (R-CA)- Rep. Bono, running for a fifth term, is one of Log Cabin's strongest allies in Congress.  She has consistently voted against the anti-family marriage amendment and has voted for the Hate Crimes Prevention Act and the Early Treatment for HIV Act. Visit Rep.   Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE)- Rep. Castle has served Delaware in Congress since 1992.  He has consistently voted against the anti-family marriage amendment and has supported hate crimes legislation.  Visit Rep. Castle's campaign website.
  Darlene Curley (R-ME) – Darlene Curley is a candidate in Maine’s 1st District.  As a member of the state legislature, Curley voted to place the LGBT inclusive anti-discrimination measure on the ballot.  She opposes the anti-family marriage amendment.  Visit Ms. Curley’s website. 

 

Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL)- Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart is running for an eighth term in Congress.  He voted against the anti-family constitutional amendment in 2006.  He has also expressed support for a hate crimes measure. Visit Rep. Diaz-Balart's website.

Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA)- Rep. Fitzpatrick has been a strong leader on gay and lesbian issues in his freshman term in Congress.  He voted against the anti-family marriage amendment and voted for hate crimes legislation.  He also supports the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which would allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the armed forces. Visit Rep.   Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL)- Rep. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL)- Rep.   Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-OH)- Rep. Pryce is the fourth ranking Republican in Congress, yet she opposed her own party and twice voted against the anti-family federal marriage amendment.  She also voted for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).  Visit Rep. Pryce's campaign website.
   Martha Rainville (R-VT) – Major General Martha Rainville (Ret.) is a candidate for Vermont’s open At-Large seat.  The former Adjutant General of Vermont’s Army & Air National Guard, Rainville supports repeal of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” policy and believes gay and lesbian Americans should be allowed to serve openly and honestly in the military.  She opposes the anti-family marriage amendment.  Visit Gen.   Rep. Joe Schwarz (R-MI)- Rep. Schwarz is running for a second term in Congress.  In his first term he has emerged as one of Log Cabin's strongest allies, courageously voting against the anti-family marriage amendment twice.  Running in a six-way primary in 2004, Schwarz was the only candidate to publicly oppose the amendment.  Visit Rep. Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT)- Rep.
