2008 Log Cabin Convention
2008 Log Cabin Republicans National Convention
San Diego, CA—April 10-13, 2008
Log Cabin Republicans held their 2008 National Convention in San Diego, California from April 10-13. We made history at the convention when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA), a strong Log Cabin ally, spoke out against an anti-gay effort to write discrimination into the California constitution. Gov. Schwarzenegger called attempts by anti-gay groups to put an amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples in CaliforniaÕs constitution "a total waste of time." He declared, "I will always be there to fight against that."
In addition to Gov. Schwarzenegger, Log Cabin members heard from John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Bolton spoke about American foreign policy and the threats we face. He also signed copies of his book, "Surrender Is Not an Option." Other speakers included San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, a Republican who represents more constituents than any other openly gay or lesbian elected official in the country; Ambassador Mark Dybul, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator; and Republican Massachusetts State Representative Paul Loscocco, who courageously voted to uphold marriage equality for same-sex couples in the Bay State.
