(Washington, DC) - The Log Cabin Republicans issued the following statement on President Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court:

“We look forward to a thorough and fair review of Judge Sotomayor’s nomination to the United States Supreme Court. The person who fills this vacancy will have a significant impact on the balance of the Court, as well as on the future of basic fairness for gay and lesbian Americans. Judge Sotomayor has a 17 year track record on the bench for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Log Cabin will study the record, writings, and testimony of Judge Sotomayor during the confirmation process, particularly as they relate to questions of basic fairness for gay and lesbian Americans. It is critical for members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to diligently question Judge Sotomayor about her judicial philosophy and where she stands on critical issues affecting gay and lesbian Americans.”
