Log Cabin Republicans Endorses Djou for Congress

(Washington, DC) – The Board of Directors of Log Cabin Republicans announces its endorsement of Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou in his bid for Hawaii’s vacant First Congressional District seat.

Charles Djou, a young Chinese-American from Hawaii, serves as a Captain in the Army Reserves and is a staunch opponent of the failed ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, which prohibits gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. Djou fought for government transparency in Hawaii, supports market-based healthcare reform and tort reform, and has never voted for a tax increase.

This race is particularly important as Djou is the only Republican running against two Democrats for the open seat, meaning he will only need a simple plurality to win. Hawaii’s First Congressional seat is clearly within reach for Republicans, with a candidate who has committed to fighting for liberty and limited government, Djou is the future of an inclusive Republican party.

“Log Cabin is proud to support Charles Djou,” commented Log Cabin Republicans National Board Chairman Terry W. Hamilton. “We are confidant that he will be a consistent champion of liberty, equality and freedom for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation. His courage and conviction should be a model for all Republicans in the election cycle as we work to take back the House and Senate.”
