(Washington, DC)—Senator John Kerry today turned his back on gay and lesbian families in Massachusetts and across America by endorsing an anti-family Constitutional amendment in his home state.  His action not only jeopardizes efforts to protect the Massachusetts Constitution, it also sends the wrong signal to lawmakers contemplating a federal anti-family amendment. 

Earlier this week, Log Cabin sharply criticized President Bush for endorsing an anti-family Constitutional amendment.  Senator Kerry also denounced the President for supporting an amendment and leaving a “trail of broken promises.”  Today, Senator Kerry began his own journey down a trail of “broken promises.”   

“If an anti-family amendment passes the Democratic-controlled Massachusetts legislature on March 11th, gay and lesbian families can partially blame John Kerry.  The Senator should be ashamed of himself for putting politics over principle,” said Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Patrick Guerriero. 

“Whether it’s taxes, trade policy, the war on terror, or amending Constitutions to discriminate against gay and lesbian families, John Kerry’s positions change more often than the Massachusetts weather,” continued Guerriero.

This is a sad reminder that the gay and lesbian community still has a lot of work to do educating members of both parties.  Log Cabin will continue fighting to protect the Constitution from those in the GOP who advocate intolerance and discrimination.
