Thursday, May 3

2:30 – 4:30 pmThe Message Matters – Media training session conducted by  GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). If you are interested in participating in this seminar, please RSVP (seating is limited).

Growing the Grassroots Part 1 - Topics discussed in these forums will include growing your chapter/membership, getting your message out, Log Cabin Online Communities, and much more.

 

Races to Watch -  Learn about the important state and federal election campaigns in 2007 & 2008.

 

Lobbying to make a Difference - Log Cabin members share experience and strategies on ways to effectively lobby state and local policy makers.

      Choose one of the following programs:

OUTreach - Log Cabin members share their experiences and strategies working with the LGBT community, and ways to communicate the Republican message. 

 

Legislative Update - Hear about legislation in the states and in the U.S. Congress important to gay and lesbian Republicans.

 

11:00 – 11:50 am – Break-out session 3

Choose one of the following programs:

 

Under the Big Tent - Discuss and share ways to reach out to fellow conservatives and get involved in local and state GOP organizations.  Also, learn about the process of becoming a delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention, and other ways to participate in the events in Minneapolis.

 

Road to the White House - An overview of the Republican candidates for President of the United States.  Find out where they stand and what they've said regarding the issues that impact our community.

 

 

12:15 pm – Luncheon with keynote speaker former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY)

 

1:30 pm – Pat Toomey, President of the Club for Growth, will discuss his vision for the future of the Republican Party

 

2:00 pm – Charlie Bass, President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, will discuss his vision for the future of the Republican Party

 

2:30 pm The GOP at a Crossroads - A discussion with top GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio on the future of the Republican Party and the 2008 campaign.

 

3:30 pm – Moving Forward— Log Cabin strategy discussion & townhall meeting with Patrick Sammon.

 

5:30 – 7:30 pmAnnual Log Cabin Trustee Martini Party on the baseball diamond at Coors Field (Open to current Log Cabin Trustees, those wishing to become Trustees, and convention Sponsors.  Click here to become a Log Cabin Trustee.)

9 pm - “Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater”—Join the granddaughter of conservative icon Barry Goldwater for a special screening of the HBO Documentary, “Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater” about the life and legacy of Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-AZ).

 

 

Saturday, May 5

 

9:00 am – Rear Admiral Alan Steinman, one of the highest-ranking openly gay military officials to speak out against the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, will talk about efforts to end the discriminatory policy.

 

9:45 am – Discussion on the 25th year of the HIV/AIDS epidemic with Dr. David Reznik D.D.S., president of HIVdent and former member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, and Barb Wise, co-founder of WiseChoices, Inc., an HIV/AIDS education organization.

 

10:15 am – Peterson Toscano tells his personal story about his journey through "ex-gay" reparative therapy programs.  Toscano, who brings humor and candor to his own story about acceptance, has been featured on national television programs.

 

11:25 am – Jennifer Brown discusses her book “Straightforward: How to Mobilize Heterosexual Support for Gay Rights”

 

12:00 pm – Luncheon.  Cyd Zeigler, the co-founder of Outsports.com briefly talks about the role of LGBT people in sports, followed by a keynote speech from NBA player John Amaechi who discusses his journey as one of the first openly gay athletes in professional sports.

 

1:30 pm – Rev. Steven F. Kindle of Clergy United discusses how he changed his mind on the issue of homosexuality and the bible.  Rev. Kindle is now a passionate speaker defending gays and lesbians and countering religious arguments used against them. 

 

2:30 pm – Bill Oberst will highlight his work with LEF to tour southern churches and community groups to give a presentation about the issues highlighted in LEF’s white paper, “The Only Question That Matters: Do People Choose Their Sexual Orientation?”  Oberst gives a powerful presentation about sexual orientation to conservative audiences.

Sunday, May 6

 

10:00 am – 2:00 pmMaking a Difference – Sunday’s sessions provide people with a chance to learn hands on skills for making a difference in their communities and places of worship.  If you are interested in participating in one of the following seminars, please RSVP. (seating is limited / lunch is provided)  Ideal for chapter leaders.

 

Beyond the Bible and Homosexuality:  A Journey into the Heart of God – Rev. Steven F. Kindle gives a powerful seminar about what the Bible really says about homosexuality.  Learn tools to refute the voices of intolerance who use the Bible to marginalize gay and lesbian people.  RSVP

 

Telling Your Story – Learn how to make effective public speeches by using your personal stories to gain new allies among conservatives and people of faith.  RSVP
